Starbucks celebrates commitment to ethical purchasing
06/03/2008

Starbucks in The Quays celebrated it scommitment to ethical coffee purchasing with Good Coffee Day on 27th Feb 2008.

Starbucks marked Good Coffee Day by offering a complimentary cup of Freshly Brewed Cafe Estime Blend Fair Trade certified coffee to every customer from 2pm until the close of business.

During the day each Starbucks coffee master seminars inviting people to sample coffee from different regions across the globe and pair them with complimentary food ie Latin American coffees go well with nuts, Asia Pacific coffees compliment the more savoury tastes such as Brie cheese.

Starbuks and the Fair Trade movement share a common goal; to ensure the farmers recieve a fair price for their coffee and help improve their farms for the future. Starbucks buys Fair Trade certified coffee because it benefits small scale coffee farmers organised into cooperatives and is part of Starbucks larger, integrated approach to sustainable coffee sourcing. Starbucks also encourages coffee cooperatives, farms and supply networks of all sizes and scale to participate in CAFE practices. (Coffee and Farmer Equity Practices). Thhis is an incentive based performance system that provides purchasing preference to coffee suppliers that provide green coffee grown, processed and traded in an environmentally, socially and economically responsible way.
