The Quays nominated charity for 2009 is Macmillan.  We have been proudly working with Macmillan for 10 years.  1 in 3 people will be affected by cancer in their lifetime and Macmillan is a fantastic support, improving the lives of people affected by cancer – through providing information, funding nurses and other specialist health and social care professionals, giving emotional and financial support and by offering practical help to cancer patients at home.

In order to fulfill these functions Macmillan carry out many fundraising initiatives and events during the course of the year and The Quays is delighted to offer facilities and support for the events scheduled in the Greater Newry Area.  Macmillan’s fundraising in the area has been hugely successful in past years and raised £183,000 in 2007/08. This was accomplished through a host of events such as the New Years Dip in Camlough lake,  Easter and Christmas raffles, selling Christmas cards and dancing and fun days at The Quays. Along with this the committee also supports other groups and organizations in the area with their own fundraising efforts for Macmillan.
