The North's biggest talent search will travel to Newry for the first time this weekend! The Citybeat Young Star Search has been running on the Belfast radio station for 4 years but for the first time will travel to Newry on Saturday in the hope to find the next singing sensation at the Quays Shopping Centre. Citybeat presenter Stuart Robinson is looking forward to the event " This will be our first time in Newry and having heard some of the talent back in the auditions in April - I'm sure shoppers will be in for a treat. Every year the competition gets bigger and bigger and as a result we always add on new locations to hold heats. This year there is 19 regional heats and Newry in the newest one - so we are excited about hearing what young talent the city has to offer. Last year’s event enjoyed a massive response when over half a million people logged onto youtube to watch the performances and eventual winners Anna Guest (8) from Newtownards & Rachel Campbell (16) from Lagmore polling the majority of 30,000 listener votes. Both went on to make a string of public performances aswell as recording their own CD single which received national airplay.
This years winners will receive a selection of great prizes including a massive shopping spree, the opportunity to record their very own CD single with airplay and the chance to jet off with easyJet to a top European destination of their choice.
The Newry heat will be judged by RTE's The Fame star Conleth O'Kane and record producer Mickey Modelle. The event gets underways at 1pm this Saturday.
